practicing gratitude by keeping a daily diary
As the year comes to a close, take time to reflect on what still needs healing so we can carry fresh energy with us into the new year. It’s great that this also comes at a time where we’re naturally feeling the need to reflect and look toward the future. Whether you subscribe to the idea of making New Year’s Resolutions or not, you might want to at least consider making one goal for this year: Gratitude. There are some easy ways to do this all over the internet, but here are a few easy steps to take to connect with an energy that will not only help improve your life, but attract better situations/people.

The Basics

There are a lot of studies out there that show how important a positive mindset and a grateful heart are to not only beneficial to healing, but to achieving goals, and approaching life’s challenges in a better, more productive way. Even some of the biggest success stories out there cite having a good mindset as important. The easiest way to put it is that you must be grateful for what you have, no matter how small. Focus on what you have and more will follow. If you continuously focus on what you don’t have, you will never receive the things you desire most.

The Methods

There are so many ways you can connect with gratitude and, in the process, improve your mood, health, and life. One of the popular ones out there is keeping a gratitude journal. By writing down even one thing a day you are grateful for, you can slowly build a strong connection to the energy of gratitude and attract more to be grateful for. Some people like to take a few minutes every morning to write in their gratitude diary.

Another popular one that goes around social media every year is similar. This one involves getting a glass jar and some small papers to write a thing a day you are grateful for, then put it into the jar. At the end of the year, you’ll have a big collection to look back on, and a new habit that will help to improve your mood, life, and coping skills.

For those who are music fans, you might want to consider putting together a playlist of songs about gratitude, or joyful songs that remind you of people/places/things/etc. that you’re grateful for. You can fire up the list any time you’re feeling the need to get a mood boost, or do it daily to build that energy up.

If you like sitting in meditation, try looking up guided meditations online that focus on gratitude, or even sound healing/binaural beats that are designed for that energy. You’ll connect with some great vibes while getting some quiet time for yourself. You can also incorporate mala beads into your practice.

If you’re busy and on the go all the time, why not take a minute when you’re walking from place to place and focus on something beautiful around you for a minute. Be present for that moment and conscious of being grateful for it, whatever it may be. It could be an animal, some great architecture, the sunrise. Anything goes, as long as you enjoy it.

Finally, consider compiling imagery of things your grateful for and making a vision board. You can hang it somewhere you’re sure to see it so that you’re always reminded of the good around you.

Whatever you decide to do, making the commitment to embracing gratitude is a game-changer, and worth any effort it might take while building the habit.
